It's Not Our Job, It's Our Passion.

Bailark Turf CareThere are many things that you as the homeowner can do to give your yard that extra edge and make it that much healthier. These tips are simple and can have great effects on your yard. If you have any questions about anything do not hesitate to ask us either over the phone or when we are evaluating your property.

  • Maintain your yard at least 3 inches mowing height
    • This will help your grass compete with weeds by shading them out.
  • Do not cut more than 1/3 of the grass blade off at a time.
    • The plant will recuperate quicker after a mowing if you don’t take more than 1/3 of it off.
  • Keep your mowing blades sharp
    • Every time you mow your yard you are damaging the grass blades, if they are sharp they will not tear the grass and it won’t lose as many nutrients.
  • Mow in different directions
    • If you are using a riding lawn mower it is important to mow in different directions to avoid compacting the soil, even with smaller lawn and garden tractors they can compact the soil if you track over the lawn in the same direction over and over.
  • Water your yard regularly
    • Try to get about 1-2 inches of water on your yard in the dry summer months, this should be adjusted when we get rain events.
    • Try to water about every other day and water early in the morning.
    • Ask us to evaluate your site to determine your specific site needs to help not only conserve water but to get the right amount of water on your lawn.
    • Water in the morning between 4am and 8am at this time no water will be lost to evaporation and the grass blade will not stay wet all night long contributing to many diseases.
  • Don't remove your clippings
    • By taking away your grass clippings you are taking away nutrients from your soil.
    • Over time the clippings will break down and decompose.
    • Contrary to popular belief adding grass clippings will not create a thatch layer.
  • Get a soil test
    • Know your ph and if your lawn needs lime, if your lawn has a ph two low it will not be able to absorb the nutrients to their fullest potential.
